Trinity

Pafos, Pafos, Cyprus

Completed: 2021

We designed this pair of four-story buildings to offer a mixture of housing unit types. Trinity Blocks A and B are side by side and were constructed simultaneously. Both offer car parking on the ground floor, along with communal areas: shared swimming pools, barbecue areas for alfresco dining, children's play areas. The facades are articulated with expressive balconies that offer wide outdoor spaces to the flats. These verandas are covered, and they also cover the large glazed openings that open out to them. Block A features uninterrupted horizontal balconies that span the width of the building. They are accessible from the living rooms and all bedrooms of each flat. The horizontal shift from one floor to the next adds dynamism to the composition. It leads the eye along the southern corner and towards block B. Block B has more variety in its composition, referring to the horizontal balconies of its neighbour on the first floor. The third and fourth floors create a vertical frame that forms two balconies with increased privacy.

The vertical frame separates the two building volumes visually. The third and fourth floors provide one two-bedroom and one three-bedroom units respectively and require less enclosed area. The remainder of the floor area is provided as a veranda, with seating and dining areas. The ground and first floors of both buildings act as unifying elements. They provide continuity across the two projects. The landscaping utilises Mediterranean species to green the soft surfaces and screen from the road. Planters are integrated into the design of the balconies.  The result is two distinct projects that stand side-by-side in harmony, complementing each other by way of materials selection as well as form and composition.
