The house is based on three planes, two horizontal and one vertical. The vertical plane is a solid 32 m. concrete wall which divides (conceptually and physically) the plot from the back garden of the adjacent building. The two horizontal planes sit on top of the basement enclosing a three sided glass box. The glass box contains the ground floor, whose two major functional spaces are the kitchen and the living-room. A concrete staircase in the middle connects the two levels. The staircase volume acts as a core. The concrete structure is exposed giving a more “brutal’, primary feeling to the whole composition.
